UN General Assembly 6th Committee (UNGA 6C) - Upper School

One of the seven committees central to the United Nations General Assembly, the 6th Committee, or Legal, deals with matters related to international law, including international terrorism, responsibility of nations, the rule of law, and interpretations of the Charter of the United Nations. Legal was started as one of the first U.N. committees to execute the goals of the U.N. Charter, specifically those that deal with wide-reaching legal matters. Every U.N.-recognized nation has membership in the Legal through the General Assembly. Legal manages the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice and calls for the development and enforcement of international law. In these committee sessions, delegates will reckon with the effectiveness of international law and its enforcement, the prevalence of global superpowers and their limits, and the purpose of the United Nations itself.
